#web is an IRC channel on the freenode IRC network. The topic of conversation is usually related to web development.
This website supplements the #web channel on the Freenode IRC network. #web exists to support designers and developers of websites and applications for the web. We also encourage people to use standards compliant practises in order to reach the broadest possible audience.
Like any forum which primarily exists to answer support questions, #web boasts a variety of regular members with different areas of expertise and different levels of experience. Also like other support forums, people who ask questions about how they should proceed with a task, or how they can fix some problem may very well get different answers. The old Perl adage applies here as well as anywhere else: There is often more than one 'right' answer.
Please keep in mind and understand: This is not your personal help—desk. You post an URI/URL and a problem. We may comment and/or discuss. We may help. We will be opinionated. If your problem gets solved, then that's nice, if it doesn't – you can have a refund of your membership fee.
We also go off on tangents a lot and talk about very random subjects covering computing in general, politics, religion, philosophy, and sex.

Guidelines
The rules of conduct within #web are not written down and are not set in stone. Please try to follow the freenode channel guidelines. The following are also suggested:
- Please do not send personal messages to anyone in the channel without asking first in channel. It is very annoying to see tons of personal messages (PMs) popping up all the time. Unless you know the person well enough that you also know they won't mind, please ask before PMing anyone.
- Please do not advertise yourself or your products in the channel. For the most part, soliciting is not allowed in the channel. This includes offers of web hosting, design expertise, development, and programming skills out of context. This also includes asking for those services. Mentioning your site URI is of course allowed; but be certain your motives are not in violation of this section :)
- Please have the source file that pertains to the question you are asking uploaded somewhere so that we can look at it. This, basically, means an URI/URL to the source in question. DCC is out – and unsolicited DCC will result in you being kicked. There is no excuse unless there is a non—disclosure agreement involved and, for the most part, we can work around that. Remember: if you need help, we need as much information as possible about the issue.
- If your question is not answered right away, don't panic. We're all rather busy people and we have lives in addition to IRC. There is usually someone around at all times who can help with problems or show you how to get help with problems, but you have to be patient. We help as much as we possibly can.
- Openly insulting someone may result in you being kicked from the channel. The 'may' is there for a reason. There are always exceptions to the rule. This one, however, has fewer exceptions than the others. Rudeness will not be tolerated.
- Validate your (X)HTML and CSS before asking for help. This could help figure out where your problem is. More often than not, a problem stems from invalid (X)HTML and/or CSS. Most in the channel will advise you to validate your document before they will help you. This is not to be mean, but to give you a chance to help yourself. (Note: make sure you have your valid arguments for using XHTML lined up should you ask for help with it.)
- When asking your question in the channel, be specific. Give us as much information as you can with which to solve the problem. Being vague may hinder our ability to help.
